Morgan – Alone
I feel like I’ve been waiting for an official Morgan track for ages, since meeting her two years ago at my old workplace –The Midi Music Company, I’ve always been intrigued to hear what she had to offer. I’ve heard the ten second freestyles that appear on the Instagram feed from time to time, when she feels like flexing on us with the soulful vocals; out of a pitch black or dimly lit background. It’s as if with each teaser, we make a mental note that she’ll deliver us three and a half minutes of bliss, when the stars are aligned in her favour.
Speaking of stars, Morgan is heavily influenced by astrology and the occult, which she draws inspiration from in the track, when exploring the theme of entering the world alone but finding that one unique person along the way. I admire Morgan’s carefully considered approach to everything, check how the release of Alone adds up; she released the track on 9th May, 6 months before her birthday on 9th November, this is significant because the number 9 symbolises rebirth, femininity and spiritual awakening. Also 969, flip the 9 to a 6 and you have 666, which has significance in esoteric and occult circles, it happens to be the numerical value of the Hebrew verse
Ata yidgal na koach Ado-nai — Now I pray, let the Power of my Lord be great.” (Numbers 14:17).
In theolo-numeric circles, 6 represents the physical world; all physical spaces and objects have six dimensions, and ancient sources describe the world as emanating in six directions — north, south, east, west, up, down [s].
It seems to me that the sequence of 969 is significant in itself for this project; rebirth , reentering the physical realm , spiritual awakening and acknowledgement that the feminine is the divine creator after completing the cycle and starting again. [Mind blown]
Morgan released the track during Mercury Retrograde’s shadow period which holds significance as a time of reflection and inner discovery. As much as I observe astrology, having posted my own thoughts reflecting on the affect of Mercury Retrograde, I get a sense that Morgan is actively into and living this stuff, which makes the project so much more profound and enigmatic, because it can be interreted in so many different ways.
Judging by there only being two tracks on her Soundcloud nowadays, Alone and Back to Black -which was released some time before, I believe we are witnessing the journey of rebirth from the moment Morgan retreated inwards (the release and upload of a Back to Black cover) to her arrival as the new person/thing/entity.
To say I’m excited is an understatement, I’ll keep my eyes peeled for future updates and developments, ensuring I document it here too!
