Where Is KO? – Dear ‘Upperty’ Imbeciles
After reading a nasty tweet from a ‘shock-jock’ who mocked the #blacklivesmatter movements with a racist comment. What began life as a paragraph in a Change.org petition to get the ‘shock-jock’ off of #LBC had blossemed into a piece about imperialism, appropriation, and privilege.
This isn’t for the faint hearted, feelings may be caught if you haven’t yet acknowledged your privilege and past, or you may just feel some type of way anyway. The piece did not set out to offend but to inspire conversation around why some ‘upperty’ folk insist on reinforcing stereotypes and misconceptions rather than look into the root cause.
Why don’t they acknowledge the past or look at the transatlantic slave trade and empire for what they really are, rather than through rose tinted glorification shades of trade and conquest?
Reason being is that UK and the major European powers of old will need to face up to the fact that their high culture, riches and influence was built on a foundation of grief, turmoil, misery, and exploitation of others who greeted them with open arms.
