I just added PULL UP to my Linkdin profile
It may not be such a significant thing to add a ‘job’ to your Linkdin profile but when it’s something you love, an enterprise you co founded (w/ Conrad Kira & StephSeeks) and the description comes so easy, there’s no feeling to describe how gratifying it is. A few years ago I didn’t get booked for events, I was given subtle hints to not play the music I loved playing on pirate radio and I was generally overlooked when it came to DJing due to me going against the grain and doing something different rather than going with it.
Fast forward to today and we are 9 mths into Pull Up, which hasn’t always been a smooth road. We’ve been overlooked by venues, refused a night due to our unwavering music policies, and had a venue close down a few days before an event with next to no contact from our point of contact. Has it been rewarding, yes, has it been difficult, a bit, am I loving it, of course! There’s always bumps in the road but I feel like our most recent night at Buster Mantis was when the vision was realised. To see 50+ people in sync dancing to Cameo’s Candy or all the lovers slow dancing was amazing for me. It reassured me why it is I do what I do and why I pursue this music and creative path. I was functioning on less that 6 hrs sleep over the previous 24 hrs, getting up and going to work in between but still I gave it my all and so I shall continue to do so but this time going much harder in all areas than before.
What’s the significance of adding it to Linkdin?
Well it’s me finally admitting that I’m doing this for real. A lot of hard work goes into our events between working full time, relationship commitments, personal endeavours and experiencing life. An integral part of it is putting the work in after creating the time to make it a success because I never forget why we came together to create it in the first place.
The point I wanted to make is that you should take ownership of your current situation, create a platform to showcase something you love doing and never stop working to tip the scales in favour from what you are employed to do and what you love doing. I hope to see you all on Friday 5th July at Buster Mantis in Deptford for PULL UP.
