Is 30 the new 20?
Birthdays make you do weird things. Some people curl up in their bedsheets reflecting on everything they haven’t done or haven’t currently got, others write off birthdays as normal days and don’t plan or celebrate anything, the rest plan tirelessly in an attempt to do something epic that family, friends, Facebook, instagram, tumblr and twitter will remember forever and ever. Me, well I’ve been example one and two but never three, I guess I don’t care about it enough to spend moments with distant friends, relatives or associates, I’d rather do something intimate with my partner on a discreet one.
What’s 30 About?
I think Jay-Z said it best when he sung ’30’s the new 20, I’m on fire still’ because growing up, there was a preconceived notion that you have to have it all together by age 30. I was one of those people but then I got to twenty seven and stopped counting. For years there was the whole ‘can’t be broke at 30’ but as life and time progressed I realised that 20 is where I spent 10 years trying to figure out adult life and preparing the foundations for stability. I mean, I learnt a lot in my 20s, a majority of those post 25 and by the time I got to 29, I can honestly say that I am happy with life and have gained everything I’ve ever wanted.
Forecast For 30s
Well I can’t say there’s anything specific apart from exploring a lot more than I currently do and doing so much more of what I love. The lesson that my twilight years of my 20s have taught me is that time is one of the most important things in life; you can’t buy or exchange it, you must treat it as an investment. I have two jobs, a relationship, a blog, and lots of music stuff going on so I’ve got to manage and invest my time wisely. Hopefully the scales will tip in favor of the creative passions outweighing the ‘9-5’ type of thing but that comes with hard work and dedication. Probably for 30, I’ll phase out more of the places where my energy is misused in favor of the places where it’ll flourish. I guess that’s what life is about tbh [to be honest] peace, love and happiness.
