Pretty Overrated – An Expression of Discontent
In this day and age mediocrity runs rife within the veins of popular culture and personal opinions, and being an individual -which was once something to be proud of, has become nothing more than ‘buzz word’ such as ‘different’ or ‘artist’ was when rappers no longer wanted to be associated with their origins circa 2006-2013. Everything nowadays has just become oh so overrated and tolerated and I just wanted to express my discontent with a few things before going to sleep…
What has my abstinence from meat taught me this past 30days? Well to give up a ‘habit’ is sooooo much easier than I initially thought. I wouldn’t call my decision a few years ago to stop smoking a ‘decision’ but more of an ‘ok this is rather silly because you’re actually killing yourself inhaling all those chemicals. With my meatless challenge, I consciously thought I’d try something that I’ve always wanted to try, therefore there was an incentive; to see if I could actually go all and way and I achieved my goal. But I guess Jay-Z was right when he said that success sucks because it’s pretty much like uni, you trek through the rain forest trying to reach the end and then you’re faced with the open sea. Suddenly meat looks and tastes pretty pretty horrible. I ate steam fish today and whilst looking at the fish head I just didn’t feel right, however it tasted delishious -unlike those ratchet wings I had on the first day after my challenge ended. Is this because I know what life is like on the other side; the clean, lighter side of the dietary scale?
Equally McDonald’s is pretty pretty disgusting these days. I went to meet a friend who travelled from Rotterdam for a DJ competition and on my way home, knowing I hadn’t eaten all day I thought I’d pop to the drive thru. I ordered two double cheese burgers and fries, I weren’t expected it to be gourmet but again it was horrible. The burgers looked as though they were slapped together and bundled into a crate where they had lost all the aesthetic appeal after being left out in the open for far too long. Fair enough they are the McD’s are the overlords of fast fuckry, fair enough I know much better than to ingest the McWack but c’mon it was pretty diabolical. The picture below gives you an insight into how I forced myself to eat it as a reminder that I should never eat McDs evaaaaaar!
A ‘Job’ Rather Than A Purpose
Going to work to do something you don’t like just to pay bills is pretty pretty overrated, especially when you realise that all that time getting woken up by your alarm to force yourself out of bed, to bath then go to work is nothing but an unnecessary tonne of anxiety. Let’s face it, you could be out there pouring your time and energy into getting you life off the ground, whilst learning and developing from taking action. The myth of working to survive in a world built upon an illusion of paper currency is so not the way, money isn’t everything and it’s pretty overrated to allow a mindset of having to do something you detest needs to be reversed. I’ve had countless convos and discussions to find that ‘nobody’ likes their jobs before wondering how any of ‘us’ at some point in our lives, end up in a ‘dead end’ job with no prospects. Well it begins with us needing some startup capital to make the dream happen but when we get there we get distracted and begin developing a spending habit in line with what we’re earning so stepping away from it becomes increasingly difficult because we have all this baggage to manage. My advice to those who relate to that is not to lose sight of what you’re meant to be doing as opposed to the whirlwind of being there because you have a vision to construct and dreams to be realised. Spent 8hrs at your ‘job’ and feeling tired? Well on the way home write something, begin to put your ideas into action when you get home -maybe for like an hour or a few. Have the discipline to be determined to make it happened because before you know it, you’re eight years deep into a dead end but remember there’s no specific or right time to start apart from now.
Until next time.
Peace and Love
